| Hello My name is Janine and I live at the bottom of New Zealand in Invercargill. I am new to making dollshouses but I am enjoying the hobby very much. I have just completed my first house and am now going to attempt something on a bigger scale. My new house is 5ft 6in high and 3ft 8in wide. It has 3 stories and an attic in the main body of the house and 2 floors in the basement. I bought it very cheaply and it is just the shell and has the wiring included. I am to add the windows, doors, etc. At present I am reading plenty of books and searching the internet for inspiration and ideas. I have enjoyed looking at other forum members houses and think they are fantastic and hopefully I can create something just as great. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures when I learn how and as my house progresses Thats all from me tonight Janine | |

| Hi Demelza Thanks for your reply
The main body of the has has 4 levels with a room on each side of the a hallway. The basement has 2 levels with 2 large rooms on each floor. My idea is to have a babies room and bathroom on the top floof/attic, ladies and gentlemans bedroom on the 3rd floor, dining and lounge on the 2 floor and a study and music/parlour room on the ground floor. In what I am calling the basement will be the maid and butlers bedroom and kitchen and the bottom floor will have a laundry/sewing room/china room(something like that) and a wine cellar/meat and vege storage room.
My husband says they are grand designs and may not be achiveable but I am going to try. It may sound like it is very grand but this is a project that will take many years I would think but one that I am enjoying so far. I am not going to rush it as I want the house to be what I have planned in my mind and numerous pieces of paper. I have been reading books from the library on victorian house etc and subscribe to two dollshouse magazine so they are giving me ideas.

| Hi Janine Nice to meet you. Although your house is large it will give you many years of enjoyment. Your plans sound great and half the fun for me is in the researching. Its amazing how many things the Victorians had for everything. We're lucky in the Uk having many old houses, maintained by the National Trust, to visit and get ideas. I particularily like the kitchens with all the copper pans. Cheers Linda | |

| Nice to meet you. Your plans for your big house sound great - I have a big 15 roomed house (including hallways) and although it is taking time I am gradually getting it done and it is so much fun - I tell my hubby that it will never really be finished whilst I am fit to find things for it - and I secretly hanker after other houses all the time. Once you have done one...well...its contagious. Good luck with your build - look at it as an investment of love and craftsmanship rather than one of money and time and you'll get there, regards, Angie | |

| Thank you all for the helpful comments and nice to meet you all too
I agree some of the fun is in the research. I am very limited in my ability to find books in my home town library and we have a very small dollshouse shop in Invercargill who is very helpful. I am away to Wellington (NZ'z capital - about 500miles or 800kilometres from Invercargill) in August for work and have decided to go up the day before and will go to the library and hopefully find more information about the victorian era and the houses and also visit any dollshouse shops.
With such a big house I am not sure where to start and as the house is already constructed I imagine the interior will be difficult. My husband was very helpful with my first house so hopefully he will be with this house. I find I am very design challegened LOL and have no real idea of what will work and what wont. My husband designs and build model railways and trains so is very practical and talented.
Thats all from me Janine | |

| When I first read about the size of your house, I immediately thought of a childs playhouse. WOW! I can imagine it taking a number of years to complete but I'm sure you'll make a great job if it. If you want inspiration for a particular room, have you tried googling for it? Or check out the blogs. There's so much more on the net than in magazines. welcome | |

| I'm at the other end of Aotearoa in Hamilton. I bet it's cold where you are. All those lucky people on the other side of the planet will be in summer. I think we are the only two NZers on the forum (or am I wrong). Cheers. Stella | |

| Hello Stella
I think we probably are the only people from NZ on this site. We are having a lovely day here today in Ingill, sun is shining and it is at least 10degrees very summery.

| Hi Mary
Thanks for your question. My dolls house has come to a bit of a standstill. I am at present paying off the windows and doors that I have ordered, I should be finished with that in a couple of weeks and can then start painting them etc. My house has 16 windows and 12 internal doors so lots of painting required and probably sanding and repainting. I have decided on the external colour and design so hope to start that next week. I have so many ideas for my house but whether I can achieve them is another matter entirely. I am taking it slowly.
I am looking after my great nephew who is 11weeks old this weekend so not much will get done this weekend.
Nice to meet you

| Hi Janine Sounds like my project, roof tiled waiting to be painted, 2 bedrooms papered - everything else to do!!! Problem is I was side tracked, my uncle made me a house and I have been busy filling it. No I don't think you will get much done this weekend, unless your nephew sleeps a lot, never mind lots of cuddles are great. Speak again soon I hope. Mary x | |

| I don't envy you having to paint all those windows and doors but that's just me decorating is not my favourite part. It would be lovely to see the house as you progress with such a large project. I'm sure it will bring you manys hours of pleasure as you see the transformation | |
