Five Steps To Building From A Kit
Step 1 Initially you will need quite a bit of space to lay
out your dolls house and work out where each piece goes. If your
building it at home and it's a nice sunny day you could use you garden
but if not try and take over your lounge for a few hours. First of all
lay all of the dolls house pieces out on the floor so you can work out
what each one of them is for. If you are building from a kit you will
probably have a parts explanation with the kit. You may also find it
helpful to label each piece as you identify it.
Step 2 The next step is to work out which pieces you need to cut grooves in for your lighting wires to run along. If you have not yet read our lighting guide which explains about grooves Click Here to read our lighting guide.
Your grooves should run along the floor of the rooms in your
dolls house. When cutting the grooves make sure you have the wood the
right way up and you are not cutting into the ceiling.
Step 3 Depending on what your dolls house is made from
you may need to sand the edges of the wood. If your house is made from
MDF the edges might already be smooth and there is no need to sand.
Sand any rough edges and then wipe all pieces of wood with a damp cloth
to remove any dust.
Step 4 Your dolls house should now be ready for
painting, you should paint the outside of the house before you put it
together. Use a matt, non acrylic based paint and a small sponge roller
to apply the paint.
You will need one or two coats of paint, make sure the first coat is dry before you apply the second coat.
Step 5 When all the paint is dry you are ready to start
doll house building. Follow the instructions carefully, it is a good
idea to read through them once before you start building. Use a strong
wood glue like evostick and ensure you glue all the appropriate places.
It may take a couple of weeks to complete all these steps but
if you take your time and do it right it will be well worth it in the
end.
